Musical Ecologies continues on the airwaves Thursday, April 15th for a live radio event featuring New York-based sound artist and experimental musician Bob Bellerue.The event will be broadcast live from the Old Stone House in Park Slope, Brooklyn on Wave Farm’s WGXC 90.7-FM Radio for Open Ears in New York’s Upper Hudson Valley, and online at wavefarm.org/listen and on the Wave Farm Radio App (iOS). Due to Covid-19 there will be no in-person audience attendance.
Well-known for his engaging noise and experimental liberation performances utilizing a wide range of materials and strategies, Bellerue’s work focusses on resonant feedback systems, amplified instruments, objects, recordings, and spaces, in combination with electronics and software written in the Supercollider audio synthesis programming language. For tonight’s program, Bob will perform an improvised set for winds, piano, voice, metal and feedback. The program will begin with a conversation hosted by series curator Dan Joseph.
Now it its extended seventh season, Musical Ecologies is a monthly symposium on music and sound held at the Old Stone House in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Curated and hosted by composer Dan Joseph, each event typically focuses on a single artist who presents a work or project either in the form of a talk or lecture, a multimedia presentation, a performance, or combination thereof. Each presentation is preceded by an extended conversation between the artist and curator.
About the artist:
Bob Bellerue is a sound artist, experimental musician, sound/video curator, and creative technician based in Ridgewood NY. Over the last 30+ years he has been involved in creating and presenting a wide range of sonic activities – experimental music, sound art, noise, junk metal percussion ensembles, soundtracks for dance/ theater/ video/ performance art, and sound / video installations. Bob’s work has been presented internationally by The Kitchen, Issue Project Room, MOMA/PS1, Pioneerworks, Experimental Intermedia, Cafe Oto, Fylkingen, EMS, High Zero Festival, the Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival, Centre de Cultura Contemporanea de Barcelona, and many others. His discography includes dozens of releases on such labels as Elevator Bath Records, iDeal Recordings, Banned Productions, Fabrica, P-Tapes, RRR Records and others. Also active as a curator and organizer, Bellerue is the founder and director the influential noise festival Ende Tymes. Now approaching its 11th year, the Ende Tymes festival currently on pause do to the Covid pandemic.
