The Musical Ecologies series will return to the Old Stone House in Park Slope, Brooklyn for a seventh season of music and conversation hosted by composer and curator Dan Joseph  The upcoming season will include six events – three in the fall 2019 and three in spring 2020, and will include a range of composers and sound artists based in New York, Los Angeles and Colorado.

Opening the season on September 19th, will be New York-based composer and audio technologist Anastasia Clarke performing an iteration of her Crushed Matrices project. On October 10th, New York-based multidisciplinary artist Jen Kutler will perform a work using one of her unique interactive electronic media systems in combination with immersive field recordings. The fall schedule will conclude on November 14th with Boulder, CO based composer and studio artist Betsey Biggs who will offer a new work that weaves field recordings of the soundscapes of Greenland.

Season VII will continue on February 13, 2020 with composer Paula Matthusen. Currently Associate Professor of Music at Wesleyan University, Matthusen will present new works, including a piece for recorder written for and performed by Canadian musician Terri Hron. Appearing on March 12th will be  avant-garde cellist and musicologist Alex Waterman  The season concludes on April 9th with Los Angeles-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Corral  Currently on the composition faculty at CalArts, Corral will present a microtonal electronic work using a Launchpad Pro MIDI controllers.

Founded in 2012, Musical Ecologies is a monthly symposium on music and sound held at the Old Stone House in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Curated and hosted by composer Dan Joseph, each event focuses on a single artist who presents a work or project either in the form of a talk or lecture, a multimedia presentation, a performance, or combination thereof. Each presentation is preceded by an extended conversation between the artist and curator.
